Batttle for Los Angeles

InkStainz and the Silver and True Blue Battle bring you an event that takes it back to Graffiti’s roots.  This Battle is about the design, expression and skill of putting up letters.  The challenge limits artists by using only two tones – silver and blue, stripping away the tricks of flashy colors and characters and exposing an artist’s technical skill and mastery.

Come down to THE GRAFF LAB at 1038 VENICE BLVD LA, CA 90015

UCA, LOD, K4P, K2STN, RA, USC, SKA, STP, WCA, UTI, STK, LTS, GAW will compete.

B Girl BBQ at the WritersBlock in San Diego

Writerz Blok is a great place, period. It’s an innovative youth art program located in San Diego and boasts to be the first legal graffiti art park in the nation woth over 10,000 sq ft of wall free to the public. Writerz Blok describes itself as being focused on “education, opportunity, and leadership through programs in muralism, screen printing, urban art, and disc jockey training.”

I had been invited to paint there by writers in the past, but this was my first time going down and applying paint to walls. Now I’m an out of Towner, but I love to see a place where kids, people and families and come together and paint in a friendly environment without having to worry about police or something funny happening. My hat is off to Writerz Blok for providing this spot for the past 11 years. The actual event itself was dope.  It had a really nice turn out. The “B girls” and” just girls” really showed up and proved their ground, respect there!

For more information on Writerz Blok and upcoming events, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

There were many booths selling everything from old school boom boxes, to new school t shirts and bags. In fact, I was impressed by all the products being sold at this event, and I have to say, having all the local brands there created a sense of community. I was also very impressed by the Wild Style Technicians, their t-shirts and their whole booth, real quality from some San Diego originals.

Also, take note promoters! I have painted a lot of events over the years and it was really nice and healthy to see the event/promoter providing pop up shade for the painters. You can really fry out there in the sun, and this was def a bonus for the girls to stay cool while painting, in that Cali sun can be no joke!securedownload-18securedownload-15securedownload-8securedownload-4securedownload-5

Last, I would like to give shout outs to Blonde One, Kuta cakes and Ms Unique for painting and saying “whats up!” I know the girls haven’t been painting as long as the guys but I really feel like with role models like Miss Van, MAD C, and Claw to look to for inspiration, or just validation that women can make it in the game also, then its all good. Go for yours, ladies!securedownload-14securedownload-16image-1securedownload-6securedownload-3IMG_20130316_110157securedownload-11securedownload-7
