Viva Las Vandal! 2016

Viva Las Vandal was a great event with 25-30 people enjoying Las Vegas, painting and laughing the whole time with no beef or stress!

I had the idea for “Viva Las Vandal” from a couple of things, and I’m glad it all came together. I felt really lucky to be a part of the first couple of “Colorado Crush” Events out in Denver Colorado, to help them grow and bring both coasts of the USA to paint at that event. Also, in the past, I had painted the “Meeting of Styles” and the “Cobras VS Lords” events in Las Vegas. Ras One was a great host both times. He is a chill easygoing guy who has put in a ton of work to make the old downtown area of Las Vegas, a real painters paradise and an art district respected by the city.

So I decided to ask Ras if he would help host an event that would grow year by year, and he said “yes”. “Viva Las Vandal” was born! I had bug plans for the first event, but had to readjust – having just moved into a house with my wife. So I let everyone know, if you still wanted to come through and paint, that I couldn’t cover paint the first year, but that it would still be a great time. I’m thankful to all that came through. And I know next year will be bigger and better! Next year, I look forward to getting paint sponsors on board, selling paint at the event, getting food trucks, and vendor booths to help support the event.

As word of the event grows, I plan on bringing in graffiti painters from both the East and West coast. Plus I have my eyes on Europe, to bring in some dope painters from over seas! I have no doubt that this will be an event enjoyed by many people and will grow to be a staple in the graffiti community. See you there in the future and stay painting.

a HUGE thank you again to all the businesses and heads that came through and helped roll walls, keep a great vibe and help out. I look forward to Viva Las Vegas 2017!

Tekkonkinkreet – Black and White

October 31, 2014 at 7:59 am

We have a ton of art books on the bookshelves in my house, but there is one that I favor and am inspired to showcase it today. The books are based off the film Tekkon Kinkreet. The books are a two volume set named “Black” and “White”. “Black / Kuro Side Art Book” features the image boards and concept art created for the film (Art director Shinji Kimura). “White / Shiro Side” is 300 pages of the background art plates used in the film. The books are named after the two main protagonists in the film.

Levi “Fonz” Ponce – Mural stud

April 23, 2014 at 12:52 pm

Tired of the art school muralists with nothing to represent except irony? No neighborhood? No history? Yea, us too. So check this dude out.

Levi “fonz” Ponce is a San Fernando Valley muralist currently making serious waves. Just in the last year or so he’s been featured in L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly, La Opinión, Fox 11, Telemundo, and a whole mess others. A talented and humble dude who seemingly ran out of walls in Pacoima.

Uter from Charles Crew.

April 4, 2014 at 9:27 am

I recently found out about the kid Uter from Charles crew. Having started in the part of Los Angeles where the KOG LTS grimy style of lines and basic colors for street graffiti, but having evolved into a complex style all his own, Uter has been really upping his game these days. Being told that Uter prefers to get a couple of dollar spray cans instead of fancy cans, and using old buff paint he finds or is given, he likes his work to be about content and not about ultra clean or traditional graffiti. He prefers abandon buildings to legal walls, and tunnels to main streets, I personally like what he’s doing, maybe you will too.

From clothes and canvas, to walls and now animated GIF walls, the guy is killing it. Insa has always been evolving his style of graffiti, and its cool to see him continue to up the anti with new ideas. Check out just a few of the cool things Insa has been up to, and see his personal website for full view, enjoy.
