I first really noticed this brand a lil while back. But as they caught my eye more and more,  I really started to feel their brand. I usually cram and layer my work, and the designs of A&I are clean and crisp, but still keep a grimy street feel to them somehow. Theres a million startup companies out there, some fresh, some not so fresh, and things have changed more and more with the internet, so I sat down and chopped it up with A&I about where it started and where its going. Enjoy.

Neighborhood Love

Where did you grow up and what neighborhood do you represent?

A&I

I grew up all over L.A really…I started in S. Central (58th & Normandie), West L.A. (Palms Area), K.Town, El Monte (S.G.V), and now reside in UpTown Whittier. The City I rep is L.A. All day!

Do you have a traditional education going to school learning graphic design for the T-shirts or do you concept them and have a team of people or was it more do-it-yourself?

A&I

I def went to school for graphic design and the Majority of the designs I put out are done by me with the exceptions of a few designs that I was blessed by Michael Beynart (Elephantpilot.com) and Edwin Zamorano.

I know there’s a lot of smaller clothing companies coming up these days using the Internet as their base. How do you plan to stand out from all the other companies out there on both coasts?

A&I

Well the clothing game is def a hard one to have longevity in if you don’t find your niche, and if you don’t get away from doing generic designs real early. We try (Winston Flawless & I) to separate ourselves from that with quality work and quality garments, which right now are hoodies, crew necks, and t-shirts, but definitely looking to move on to bigger and better things in the future. As far as staying relevant on both coast, well we do that by spreading a message that the masses can relate or feel without pigeon holding ourselves to just one coast. Did that make sense?

Neighborhood Love

Is there a certain market you’re going after, or is there a certain message or feel behind your brand?

A&I

We’re trying to appeal to all genres and the way it is now I feel like a lot of genres are taking from others and creating their own look. Which is a good look for brands that are looking outside the box. The message is open your eyes to whats going on around you, just don’t be sheep following/believing what you’re told…was that too deep?

Neighborhood Love

Don’t trip, it’s never too deep in haar! Next question.

Street hustle? How important is it in the clothing game?

A&I

Man, street hustle is a big part of the game you have to know your people and be willing to put in the feet work time to get your name out there in different medias. (I.e slaps, wheat paste, etc).

Is there certain style that you want to put out with your clothing or is there certain artist you’d like to work with, or certain style?

A&I

I say if you’re feeling the gear regardless of genre, make it your own. Artist I would like to work with…Definitely want to have Vyal get on a design, BIG 5, The Homie “Art of Cip”, Jayski from my Bridges/Dp Sound fam, and Elser (we talked about this briefly like years back I don’t know if you remember).

 Neighborhood Love

You know that’s funny, I didn’t remember that, so I’m glad you brought it up. I get caught up with what I’m doing and lose details, but you know I’m down for that!

Ok, do you feel your neighborhood that you grew up in influences what you guys put out there?

A&I

For sure, I really feel that you have to pull from your hood at times be it memories, photos, magz, videos, to give some designs life.

Neighborhood Love

You have a favorite part of your neighborhood you would like to talk about, or have a neighborhood that you visited in the past that you really like that you’d like to spotlight?

A&I

Man to be honest I love to go through different areas from my youth. It lets me see where I came from and how far ive come in my life. If I had to pick a spot it would be S. Central I have a special place in my heart for that hood.
